Ready to open online course selection on myBlueprint? You’ve selected your settings, and ready for your students to start selecting their courses! Here are our 8 Steps to Success to help you review student course submissions.

Before you get started: Visit www.myBlueprint.ca, log in to your account, and ensure you have configured your school’s Course Selection Settings and reviewed your Course Manager.

Not sure what this means? Read the Preparing for Course Selection blog post for detailed steps.

8 Steps to Success

Download the Completing Course Selection guide for detailed instructions and screenshots for each of the steps listed below. You can also check out our bite-sized Course Selection Video Tutorials.

1) Review Not Activated Students

In your Counsellor/Admin Account, click Students to identify those that are “Not Activated”. Students with “Not Activated” status must sign up and enter their provincial education number (i.e., OEN, ASN, MET) and date of birth before they can submit their courses on myBlueprint.

Your students can activate their accounts during the sign-up process, and it is a one-time entry to activate their accounts. If you are unsure of the sign-up process, from your Staff account, click Help, and select Get Students Started for your unique sign-up steps.

2) Introduce Staff to myBlueprint Course Selection

Share with your staff how Course Selection will be completed this year. You may wish to host a staff meeting, (in person or virtually) to demonstrate the course selection steps for students using your Student View. You can share the Course Selection Guide for Students and also watch the Course Selection for Students video tutorial.

3) Open Course Selection

In your Counsellor Lead account, scroll to the Course Selection Checklist on your Dashboard, click the Closed toggle to enable course selection on a per grade basis. Once opened, students can start to submit their courses in the High School Planner.

Note: You may open course selection to all grades, or select one (or more) grades at a time. Opening course selection one or more grade(s) at a time works well in large schools to stagger the course selection process.

4) Review and Approve Student Course Submissions

In your myBlueprint Counsellor/Admin account, click Students and select the Pending Approval tab to review and approve students’ submitted plans. From here, you can review each plan, comments left by students, make any minor changes needed, and approve plans to be transferred back to your SIS.

  • Plans with no issues: Pending plans without any issues will not have any flags
  • Plans with issues: Pending plans with issues will be highlighted in red in the Course Selection column. Issues may include a missing prerequisite or not enough courses selected
  • Approve Plans: Check the box next to student name, Approve Plansthis will move the plans with checkmarks to the Pending Export tab

To view the courses each student has submitted, comments they have made, and action on their submission (i.e., make changes for them), click on their Last Name.

For more information on how to make changes to a student’s course selection OR on how to re-allow course submission, watch the Reviewing and Approving Student Plans Video.

5) Review Student Submission Status

In your Counsellor Lead account, click Students. Use the dropdown Filters to filter the list by Grade, Submission Status, etc. to see who has and has not completed course selection.

Click on the download arrow button at the top right of the All tab to download an Excel file of your student submission status report.

6) Export Submissions (if not done by your board)

In your myBlueprint Counsellor/Admin account, click Students and select the Pending Export tab. Click Export Plans. This will either push the choices back to your SIS or allow you to download the plans to an export file.

  • NOTE: If you use Trillium, you will be required to download the file and import it into the Trillium Interfaces tool. You will find the Download button in your Exported tab or on your dashboard.

7) Close Course Selection

When you are ready to close course selection for students, make sure to do so from your Counsellor Lead Dashboard. Simply click the Open toggle and change to Close course selection for all students or do so on a per grade basis. Make sure to click Save Changes.

8) Course Forecasting Report

In your Counsellor Lead account, select Statistics and Reports to find a Course Forecasting Report that shows the number of students planning to take each course at your school. Share this information with your faculty for staffing purposes or so that they know if they need to better promote their classes within the school.
