Title: Self-Discovery

“Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom.”

As Aristotle aptly states, the more we know about ourselves, the better we can make decisions and plan for the future. As educators, we have the privilege of supporting students as they embark on their journey of self-discovery. Just as no two students are the same, each student’s future pathway is also unique.

Provide opportunities for your students to learn more about themselves by prompting them to add boxes to their All About Me portfolio. Students can share their values, interests, attributes, strengths, goals, achievements, work habits, and more. Take time to celebrate each student’s uniqueness!

With student-led conferences coming up, here are some great resources to support self-discovery using All About Me:

  1. Download the All About Me Student-Led Conference Package (Kindergarten, Grade 1–3, Grade 4–6) for easy-to-implement ideas.
  2. Looking for a new approach to Student-Led Conferences? Take a look at our teacher guide on Demonstration-Based Student Led Conferences.
  3. Review Feedback Ideas and Tips for Educators for best practices to encourage and empower students throughout the reflective process through timely, positive, and constructive feedback.
  4. Have students add new skills and accomplishments to their portfolios from the About Me Path and reflect on what they did to achieve/accomplish them
  5. Add personal artifacts, videos, pictures, and audio recordings to their Portfolio as evidence of learning

Title: Self-Discovery

“Have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow know what you truly want to become.”

This quote from Steve Jobs resonates as we take time to think about self-discovery. Students are embarking on their personal journey to learn more about themselves as they prepare for their future. As educators, we have the privilege of supporting students along the way by providing them with the resources, guidance, and support they need to succeed. Just as no two students are the same, each student’s future pathway is also unique.

Take time to celebrate each student’s uniqueness! Provide opportunities for them to learn more about themselves by prompting them to complete Who Am I surveys in Education Planner. Students can learn more about their Learning Styles, Personality, Interests, Knowledge, and Motivations. Afterwards, encourage students to reflect on their results in a Who Am I portfolio.

This month, your students may also be participating in Take Our Kids to Work Day (TOKTWD). Use our TOKTWD Activity Package to encourage students to create a portfolio & reflect on their experience.
