March marks the beginning of spring and emphasizes a theme of growth. Goal setting is a powerful tool for student motivation and individual improvements. As an educational strategy, goal setting has a high impact on student achievement by making learning visible and relevant for students.

Goal setting can span all aspects of education, including academics and personal wellness. Academic goals can connect directly to learning outcomes and apply to all subject areas. For example, consider group and class-wide goals using learning intentions to structure desired outcomes.

This March, use myBlueprint’s All About Me and Education Planner platforms to help make goal setting a familiar process for your students. Scroll and read today’s blog post to learn more!

Title: Goals for the Win!

Setting SMART goals, creating attainable tasks and tracking progress becomes a familiar process for students. With regular practice, goal setting becomes a transferable skill that in addition to academics, is equally applicable to personal life. Setting goals for personal wellness, relationships, and finances are examples of how goal setting can be applied to long-term individual success. In this way, goal setting contributes to life-long learning and a growth mindset.

Here are some great resources to support goal setting using All About Me:

  • This lesson plan introduces students to the vocabulary of goal-setting, the value of setting individual goals, and the process of reflecting on what they hope to achieve in the future: Goals Setting (Kindergarten)
  • This lesson plan will help students use All About Me to set goals, track their progress, and reflect on their decisions: Goals Setting (Grade 1–2)
  • This lesson plan provides a more advanced guide to setting goals, defines ‘SMART’ goals, and encourages students to monitor their progress with All About Me: Goal Setting (Grade 3–6)
  • Watch this quick video to learn more about how to add goals in All About Me!

Implementation Ideas for MARCH!

  1. With Spring Break approaching, help students reflect on their out-of-school learning experiences. Check out the My Favourite Spring Break Moment Activity to help students record, reflect and share their learning
  2. Help students mindfully build essential competencies — March’s focus is Resilience. Resilience stems from having a plan and striving to achieve goals. Have students watch S1E7 of Competencies without a Classroom and engage them in a discussion using the accompanying slide deck, teacher guide, and student handout
